When Experience Meets Change: Training the Experienced New Hire

Hiring an experienced employee should make training easier... right? Not always. This presentation explores the complexities of onboarding personnel who arrive with years of established habits, workflows, and agency-specific practices. While prior experience can accelerate competency, it may also create friction when new policies, procedures, or cultural expectations differ from what the employee has long practiced. This lecture examines common difficulties encountered when retraining experienced professionals, including resistance to change, unintentional comparison to prior agencies, and gaps between perceived and required competencies.
