CSI Gear Essentials
As someone who has worked crime scene investigations for a decade, I understand the importance of having reliable and effective equipment. After years of buying gear, which sometimes worked, and sometimes didn't, I’ve compiled a list of items that truly stands up to the demands of crime scene work. Here, you'll find the pieces that I personally use. Each item is linked to Amazon, where you can find detailed information and make purchases with confidence. As an affiliate, I earn a small commission at no extra cost to you which helps support the site and allows me to provide content and resources to you.
The Streamlight 61125 ClipMate is a rechargeable flashlight with a flexible neck that allows you to clip the light on your shirt, or hat, or even clipboard. It's perfect for taking notes and doing your scene documentation at night.
Winter is coming. Fall is certainly here. I know when it get's cold and my fingers cease to function. I love these because they were inexpensive and last a good 4-8 hours depending on how high I set the temperature. I'll throw one of these in my jacket to warm my hands up o during a cold night scene.
I love this light! It's a magnet mounted light that can be worn or placed on almost anything. It's a great way to add visibility when you're writing your notes in the dark or just to provide some added safety. It also has a red light function on the front that helps protect your vision at night.
If you aren't a germaphobe yet, the job might just make you one. You will likely encounter a questionable substance or fluid at a scene that gives you the "ick" feeling. I always disinfect my gear after every scene because I'm just that person. I love these wipes because I know I'm decontaminating everything!
IT GOES UP STAIRS! This was a game changer for me. It's great for hauling gear or picking up evidence when you're at a scene. It also works great in the lab when you have to transport multiple items through the lab/office. It even has a lid (perfect for keeping things dry on a rainy day)!
It's just like a Posse Box but half the cost. I've had the same one for the past 7 years and it's still going strong. It's even flown off the hood of my car a time or two. It has different sections that let's you store additional note pages and pens.
